One of the flagship initiatives that encapsulates this passion is the Sagar Mahotsav, a unique event dedicated to safeguarding marine ecosystems and raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation.
The Sagar Mahotsav embodies Aasamant’s commitment to the 14th UN Sustainability Development Goal: “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.”
The festival is a celebration of the sea, but more importantly, it is a platform to educate the public about the ecological significance of coastal life. Through lectures on marine life by experts, naval exhibitions, and coastal biodiversity studies, the event fosters a deep connection between people and the ocean.
By conducting rocky and sandy shore tours, mangrove study tours, and sand sculpture exhibits during this festival, Aasamant is encouraging the next generation to explore and safeguard ocean life.
The Coastal Mapping Project, a year-long initiative undertaken during the festival, provided scientific data free of cost to researchers and students.
The festival’s central message—“One Ocean, One Future”—reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect the marine environment for future generations.
